Despite the loss of MG Rover, UK car production rose 0.3%
to 149,662 in November, the best result for the month since
2000, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and
Traders (SMMT).
Year to date production was off 2.4% to 1,500,414.
Production for the UK market fell 10.5% to 393,784 while
exports rose 0.9% to 1,106,630.
“Growth in export volumes should push the year end total to
a record 1.19 million units. Almost eight in every 10 cars
made in November went for export and year end market share for
export should hit 74.1%,” the SMMT said.
“Export volumes continue to boost car production in the
UK', said SMMT chief executive Christopher Macgowan.
“Overall car output in 2005 should hit 1.6 million units, a
little down on 2004 but still a strong performance.”
Year to date commercial vehicle production was down 0.6% to
193,195 units.
Home market production fell 3.7% to 73,223 while exports
rose 1.3% to 119,972.
